Official Description
SQL injection vulnerability in index.php in the SimpleFAQ (com_simplefaq) 2.11 component for Mambo allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the aid parameter. NOTE: it was later reported that 2.40 is also affected, and that the component can be used in Joomla! in addition to Mambo.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2007-4456 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2007-4456. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
