CVE-2026-5269
CWE-1393Published: July 14, 2026· Updated: Jul 15, 2026
Official Description
In Ciena's Navigator Network Control Suite (NCS) and Manage Control Plan (MCP), there are hidden system accounts used for internal software operations. Some of these accounts have default passwords that may be predictable. While these accounts have very limited permissions on their own, an attacker could combine an attack using one of these accounts with other potential weaknesses to launch a more significant attack, possibly leading to escalation of privilege on the system.
Risk Analysis
This critical vulnerability in Ciena's Navigator Network Control Suite (NCS) and Manage Control Plan (MCP), with a CVSS score of 9.8, involves hidden system accounts with predictable default passwords. While these accounts have limited permissions, they could be combined with other weaknesses for privilege escalation.
No public exploit is currently known for this vulnerability. The flaw is remotely exploitable (AV:N) and has low attack complexity (AC:L), making it a significant concern.
Apply the necessary security updates for Ciena Navigator Network Control Suite (NCS) and Manage Control Plan (MCP). Change all default passwords for system accounts and implement strong password policies.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-5269 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
