Official Description

Twig is a template language for PHP. Prior to 3.27.0, ArrayExpression does not guard dynamic mapping keys that are coerced to strings, allowing PHP to invoke __toString() on a Stringable object used as a mapping key without calling SandboxExtension::ensureToStringAllowed(). This issue is fixed in version 3.27.0.

Risk Analysis

This critical vulnerability in Twig, a PHP template language, allows an attacker to bypass security restrictions by manipulating dynamic mapping keys. The flaw enables PHP to invoke a function on a Stringable object without proper sandboxing, potentially leading to high impact on confidentiality and integrity. The CVSS score of 9.1 indicates a severe risk, though there is no confirmed exploitation in the wild or EPSS score to suggest immediate likelihood of exploitation.

No public exploit is currently known for this vulnerability. Given the CVSS vector, it is remotely exploitable without user interaction.

Recommended Action

Upgrade Twig to version 3.27.0 or later to address this vulnerability. Ensure all PHP applications using Twig are updated to the latest secure versions.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-48806 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), with a CVSS base score of 9.1.
