Official Description

Certain devices in the WAGO System I/O Field series activate an internal diagnostic capability during the initial startup sequence. This functionality is not formally documented and becomes accessible without authentication for a brief period in the early boot phase. During this window, an unauthenticated remote attacker can gain access to the internal system processes, resulting in full system compromise.

Risk Analysis

This critical vulnerability in WAGO System I/O Field series devices allows unauthenticated remote attackers to achieve full system compromise. During a brief window in the initial startup sequence, an undocumented diagnostic capability becomes accessible without authentication. The CVSS score of 9.8 highlights the extreme severity and potential for complete control over affected systems.

No public exploit is currently known for this vulnerability. However, its remote and unauthenticated nature (AV:N/PR:N) during a specific boot phase makes it a high-risk target for exploitation.

Recommended Action

Consult WAGO for firmware updates that disable or secure the undocumented diagnostic capability. Implement network segmentation to restrict access to these devices, especially during startup.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-4769 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
