Official Description

Execution with Unnecessary Privileges (CWE-250) in Kibana’s Fleet plugin debug route handlers can lead reading index data beyond their direct Elasticsearch RBAC scope via Privilege Abuse (CAPEC-122). This requires an authenticated Kibana user with Fleet sub-feature privileges (such as agents, agent policies, and settings management).

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-4498 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

Exploitation requires low privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), with a CVSS base score of 7.7.

The vulnerability has a "Changed" scope, meaning successful exploitation can impact components beyond the vulnerable component itself — such as the host operating system or adjacent services.
