CVE-2026-40772
CWE-434Published: June 15, 2026· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
Unauthenticated Arbitrary File Upload in GeekyBot <= 1.2.2 versions.
Risk Analysis
This critical vulnerability is an unauthenticated arbitrary file upload in the GeekyBot plugin. An attacker can upload arbitrary files without needing any credentials, which could lead to remote code execution or system compromise. The CVSS score of 10.0 indicates an extremely severe risk, though there is no EPSS score to assess exploitation likelihood and it is not confirmed exploited by CISA.
No public exploit is currently known for this vulnerability. However, the attack vector is network-based with low complexity, meaning it is remotely exploitable without user interaction.
To mitigate this vulnerability, users should update the GeekyBot plugin to a version beyond 1.2.2. Additionally, ensure proper file upload validation and restrict execution permissions in upload directories.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-40772 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 10.0.
The vulnerability has a "Changed" scope, meaning successful exploitation can impact components beyond the vulnerable component itself — such as the host operating system or adjacent services.
