CVE-2026-30141
CWE-400Published: June 9, 2026· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
An issue was discovered in bitbank2 AnimatedGIF v2.2.0. A buffer overflow in the DecodeLZW function allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or potentially execute arbitrary code via a crafted GIF file.
Risk Analysis
This critical vulnerability in bitbank2 AnimatedGIF v2.2.0 involves a buffer overflow in the DecodeLZW function, which can lead to a denial of service or arbitrary code execution. With a CVSS score of 9.8, this flaw is extremely severe and can be exploited remotely without user interaction. The lack of an EPSS score means the exploitation likelihood is currently unknown, but the high CVSS score demands immediate attention.
No public exploit is currently known for this vulnerability. Its network-exploitable nature and low attack complexity make it an extremely significant remote threat.
Update bitbank2 AnimatedGIF to a patched version to prevent buffer overflow issues. Implement robust input validation and bounds checking for all file processing functions.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-30141 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
