CVE-2025-8053
CWE-1220Published: October 20, 2025· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
Insufficient Granularity of Access Control vulnerability in opentext Flipper allows Exploiting Incorrectly Configured Access Control Security Levels. The vulnerability could allow a low privilege user to interact with the backend API without sufficient privileges.
This issue affects Flipper: 3.1.2.
Risk Analysis
This critical vulnerability in OpenText Flipper allows a low-privilege user to interact with the backend API without sufficient privileges due to insufficient granularity of access control. This could lead to privilege abuse and unauthorized access to sensitive information. The CVSS score of 9.1 indicates a high severity risk.
No public exploit is currently known for this vulnerability. Its remote exploitability (AV:N) and low attack complexity mean it could be easily exploited if a proof-of-concept emerges.
Administrators should update OpenText Flipper to a version beyond 3.1.2. Review and strengthen access control configurations within Flipper to ensure proper privilege enforcement for API interactions.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2025-8053 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), with a CVSS base score of 9.1.
