CVE-2025-68937
CWE-61Published: December 26, 2025· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
Forgejo before 13.0.2 allows attackers to write to unintended files, and possibly obtain server shell access, because of mishandling of out-of-repository symlink destinations for template repositories. This is also fixed for 11 LTS in 11.0.7 and later.
Risk Analysis
Forgejo is vulnerable to a file write issue caused by mishandling symlink destinations in template repositories, which can lead to remote shell access. This critical vulnerability requires high complexity to exploit but carries significant impact.
No public exploit is known, and it is not in the KEV catalog. It is remotely exploitable.
Upgrade to Forgejo version 13.0.2 or 11.0.7 for LTS users to resolve the symlink handling issue.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2025-68937 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
