CWE-125Published: September 3, 2025· Updated: Jun 17, 2026

9.8
CVSS v3.1

Official Description

cJSON 1.5.0 through 1.7.18 allows out-of-bounds access via the decode_array_index_from_pointer function in cJSON_Utils.c, allowing remote attackers to bypass array bounds checking and access restricted data via malformed JSON pointer strings containing alphanumeric characters.

Risk Analysis

cJSON is susceptible to out-of-bounds access via malformed JSON pointers, allowing remote attackers to access restricted data. This critical flaw has a CVSS score of 9.8 and is not currently tracked in CISA KEV.

No public exploit is currently known, though the flaw is remotely exploitable with low attack complexity.

Recommended Action

Update the cJSON library to a version that includes the necessary bounds checking fixes. Validate all input JSON data before processing.

Generated by the CTIWATCH analysis pipeline from this CVE's metadata (CVSS, EPSS, KEV status, exploit intelligence). Verify against vendor advisories before acting.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2025-57052 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
