CVE-2025-14558
CWE-20Published: March 9, 2026· Updated: Mar 9, 2026
Official Description
The rtsol(8) and rtsold(8) programs do not validate the domain search list options provided in router advertisement messages; the option body is passed to resolvconf(8) unmodified.
resolvconf(8) is a shell script which does not validate its input. A lack of quoting meant that shell commands pass as input to resolvconf(8) may be executed.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2025-14558 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires high privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 7.2.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2025-14558. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
