SimpleHelp Path Traversal Vulnerability
SimpleHelp remote support software contains multiple path traversal vulnerabilities that allow unauthenticated remote attackers to download arbitrary files from the SimpleHelp host via crafted HTTP requests. These files may include server configuration files and hashed user passwords.
Apply mitigations per vendor instructions or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
Risk Analysis
This vulnerability in SimpleHelp remote support software involves multiple path traversal flaws, allowing unauthenticated remote attackers to download arbitrary files from the SimpleHelp host via crafted HTTP requests. These files can include sensitive server configuration and hashed user passwords. The high EPSS score of 0.93957 indicates a very high likelihood of exploitation, making this a critical vulnerability. Its inclusion in CISA's KEV catalog confirms active exploitation.
This vulnerability has been actively exploited in the wild, as indicated by its exploit status and inclusion in CISA's KEV catalog. The flaw is remotely exploitable by unauthenticated attackers.
Apply the latest security updates or patches for SimpleHelp remote support software to fix the path traversal vulnerabilities. Restrict network access to the SimpleHelp server and monitor for suspicious HTTP requests.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2024-57727 requires local access, meaning attackers must already have a foothold on the target system.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
CISA has added CVE-2024-57727 to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, confirming active exploitation in the wild. U.S. federal agencies are required to patch this within the mandated timeframe, and all organizations should treat remediation as urgent.
