CVE-2023-51392

CWE-1240Published: February 23, 2024· Updated: Jun 17, 2026

9.8
CVSS v3.1

Official Description

Ember ZNet between v7.2.0 and v7.4.0 used software AES-CCM instead of integrated hardware cryptographic accelerators, potentially increasing risk of electromagnetic and differential power analysis sidechannel attacks.

NVD Source

Risk Analysis

Ember ZNet versions 7.2.0 through 7.4.0 use software-based AES-CCM instead of hardware acceleration, exposing the system to side-channel attacks. This critical flaw could allow attackers to perform electromagnetic or power analysis to extract sensitive data. The 9.8 CVSS score reflects the high risk to cryptographic integrity.

There is no known public exploit, and the vulnerability is not in the CISA KEV. It is remotely exploitable with low attack complexity.

Recommended Action

Upgrade to a version of Ember ZNet that utilizes hardware-based cryptographic acceleration. Follow vendor guidance for secure cryptographic implementation.

Generated by the CTIWATCH analysis pipeline from this CVE's metadata (CVSS, EPSS, KEV status, exploit intelligence). Verify against vendor advisories before acting.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2023-51392 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
