CWE-89Published: December 20, 2023· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
Online Voting System Project v1.0 is vulnerable to multiple Unauthenticated SQL Injection vulnerabilities. The 'username' parameter of the reg_action.php resource does not validate the characters received and they are sent unfiltered to the database.
Risk Analysis
The Online Voting System Project v1.0 suffers from unauthenticated SQL injection in the registration process. This allows attackers to manipulate the database, posing a critical risk to data integrity and confidentiality.
No public exploit is currently known for this vulnerability. It is remotely exploitable due to the network attack vector.
Upgrade to a secure version of the software if available or implement input validation and parameterized queries to prevent SQL injection.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2023-48434 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
From a weakness classification perspective (CWE-89): SQL injection vulnerabilities allow attackers to manipulate database queries, potentially exposing or modifying sensitive data.
