CVE-2023-46216
CWE-787Published: December 19, 2023· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
An attacker sending specially crafted data packets to the Mobile Device Server can cause memory corruption which could result to a Denial of Service (DoS) or code execution.
Risk Analysis
A memory corruption vulnerability in the Mobile Device Server could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a service crash. The critical severity rating is driven by the lack of required authentication and the potential for full system impact.
There is no public exploit available, and it is not included in the CISA KEV. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable.
Ensure Ivanti Avalanche software is updated to the latest available patch to resolve this memory corruption issue.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2023-46216 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
From a weakness classification perspective (CWE-787): Out-of-bounds write vulnerabilities can lead to data corruption, crashes, or arbitrary code execution.
