CVE-2023-45685

CWE-22Published: October 16, 2023· Updated: Jun 17, 2026

9.1
CVSS v3.1

Official Description

Insufficient path validation when extracting a zip archive in South River Technologies' Titan MFT and Titan SFTP servers on Windows and Linux allows an authenticated attacker to write a file to any location on the filesystem via path traversal

NVD Source

Risk Analysis

Titan MFT and SFTP servers suffer from insufficient path validation during zip archive extraction, allowing an authenticated attacker to perform path traversal and write files to arbitrary locations. The 9.1 CVSS score indicates a high risk to system integrity and confidentiality.

No public exploit is known, and it is not in the CISA KEV catalog. The flaw is remotely exploitable by an authenticated attacker.

Recommended Action

Administrators should apply the latest security patches provided by South River Technologies for their Titan server products.

Generated by the CTIWATCH analysis pipeline from this CVE's metadata (CVSS, EPSS, KEV status, exploit intelligence). Verify against vendor advisories before acting.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2023-45685 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

Exploitation requires high privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.1.

The vulnerability has a "Changed" scope, meaning successful exploitation can impact components beyond the vulnerable component itself — such as the host operating system or adjacent services.
