IP Cameras
with firmware version M2.1.6.05 are
vulnerable to multiple instances of stack-based overflows. While
processing XML elements from incoming network requests, the product does
not sufficiently check or validate allocated buffer size. This may lead
to remote code execution.
Risk Analysis
Zavio IP cameras are vulnerable to stack-based buffer overflows during the processing of XML elements in network requests. This critical flaw may allow for remote code execution and is not currently in the CISA KEV.
No public exploit is known, and it is not in the KEV. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable with low attack complexity.
Update the camera firmware to the latest version provided by Zavio.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2023-3959 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
