CVE-2023-39422

CWE-798Published: September 7, 2023· Updated: Jun 17, 2026

9.8
CVSS v3.1

Official Description

The /irmdata/api/ endpoints exposed by the IRM Next Generation booking engine authenticates requests using HMAC tokens. These tokens are however exposed in a JavaScript file loaded on the client side, thus rendering this extra safety mechanism useless.

Risk Analysis

The IRM Next Generation booking engine exposes HMAC authentication tokens within client-side JavaScript files. This flaw renders the authentication mechanism ineffective, allowing unauthenticated remote attackers to potentially bypass security controls. The critical severity reflects the ease of exploitation and the potential for full system compromise.

There is no known public exploit for this vulnerability, and it is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog. It is remotely exploitable due to the network-accessible nature of the API endpoints.

Recommended Action

Users should consult with the vendor for available patches or updates to the Internet Reservation Module. Ensure that sensitive authentication tokens are not exposed in client-side code.

Generated by the CTIWATCH analysis pipeline from this CVE's metadata (CVSS, EPSS, KEV status, exploit intelligence). Verify against vendor advisories before acting.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2023-39422 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
