CWE-787Published: August 7, 2023· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
Tenda F1202 V1.2.0.9, PA202 V1.1.2.5, PW201A V1.1.2.5 and FH1202 V1.2.0.9 were discovered to contain a stack overflow via the page parameter at /L7Im.
Risk Analysis
Several Tenda networking devices are vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow via the page parameter. This critical flaw permits remote, unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code.
No public exploit is known, and the vulnerability is not in the CISA KEV catalog. It is remotely exploitable with low complexity.
Update the device firmware to the latest version. Implement network-level access controls to restrict access to the device management interface.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2023-38938 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
From a weakness classification perspective (CWE-787): Out-of-bounds write vulnerabilities can lead to data corruption, crashes, or arbitrary code execution.
