CVE-2023-33222

CWE-121Published: December 15, 2023· Updated: Jun 17, 2026

9.8
CVSS v3.1

Official Description

When handling contactless cards, usage of a specific function to get additional information from the card which doesn't

check the boundary on the data received while reading. This allows a stack-based buffer overflow that could lead to a

potential Remote Code Execution on the targeted device

NVD Source

Risk Analysis

A stack-based buffer overflow in Idemia Sigma devices occurs when processing contactless card data. This critical flaw could allow an attacker to achieve remote code execution on the targeted hardware.

There is no known public exploit, and it is not in the KEV catalog. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable with low complexity.

Recommended Action

Apply the latest firmware updates for the affected Idemia Sigma devices. Restrict physical and network access to the card reader interfaces.

Generated by the CTIWATCH analysis pipeline from this CVE's metadata (CVSS, EPSS, KEV status, exploit intelligence). Verify against vendor advisories before acting.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2023-33222 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
