CVE-2023-31247
CWE-119Published: November 14, 2023· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
A memory corruption vulnerability exists in the HTTP Server Host header parsing functionality of Weston Embedded uC-HTTP v3.01.01. A specially crafted network packet can lead to code execution. An attacker can send a malicious packet to trigger this vulnerability.
Risk Analysis
Weston Embedded uC-HTTP contains a memory corruption vulnerability in its Host header parsing, which can be triggered by a malicious network packet to achieve code execution. This is a critical, remotely exploitable flaw with a CVSS score of 9.8.
No public exploit is known, and the vulnerability is not in the KEV database.
Update the affected software components, including the Gecko SDK or uC-HTTP, to the latest versions.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2023-31247 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
From a weakness classification perspective (CWE-119): Buffer overflow vulnerabilities can lead to arbitrary code execution or denial of service by corrupting adjacent memory.
