CISA KEV Advisory
D-Link DNR-322L Download of Code Without Integrity Check Vulnerability
D-Link DNR-322L contains a download of code without integrity check vulnerability that could allow an authenticated attacker to execute OS level commands on the device. The impacted products could be end-of-life (EoL) and/or end-of-service (EoS). Users should discontinue product utilization.
Apply mitigations per vendor instructions, follow applicable BOD 22-01 guidance for cloud services, or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
Risk Analysis
This vulnerability in D-Link DNR-322L allows an authenticated attacker to execute operating system commands due to a lack of integrity checks during code downloads. The high EPSS score and confirmed exploitation indicate a significant and immediate risk, especially since the product may be end-of-life.
Active exploitation of this vulnerability has been observed in the wild. Given the nature of the flaw, it is likely remotely exploitable if the web interface is exposed.
Users should immediately discontinue the use of D-Link DNR-322L devices. If discontinuation is not immediately possible, isolate the device from critical networks and restrict access to its management interface.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2022-40799 requires local access, meaning attackers must already have a foothold on the target system.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
CISA has added CVE-2022-40799 to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, confirming active exploitation in the wild. U.S. federal agencies are required to patch this within the mandated timeframe, and all organizations should treat remediation as urgent.
