CVE-2022-40797

CWE-434Published: November 9, 2022· Updated: Jun 17, 2026

9.8
CVSS v3.1

Official Description

Roxy Fileman 1.4.6 allows Remote Code Execution via a .phar upload, because the default FORBIDDEN_UPLOADS value in conf.json only blocks .php, .php4, and .php5 files. (Visiting any .phar file invokes the PHP interpreter in some realistic web-server configurations.)

Risk Analysis

Roxy Fileman 1.4.6 fails to properly restrict file uploads, allowing attackers to upload .phar files that can be executed by the web server. This leads to remote code execution, which is a critical security risk.

There is no public exploit known, and it is not in the CISA KEV. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable.

Recommended Action

Configure the web server to block the execution of .phar files and update the file upload validation logic in Roxy Fileman.

Generated by the CTIWATCH analysis pipeline from this CVE's metadata (CVSS, EPSS, KEV status, exploit intelligence). Verify against vendor advisories before acting.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2022-40797 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
