CWE-502Published: August 19, 2022· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
A Java Deserialization vulnerability in the Fishbowl Server in Fishbowl Inventory before 2022.4.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted XML payload.
Risk Analysis
Fishbowl Inventory servers prior to 2022.4.1 are vulnerable to remote code execution via a Java deserialization flaw involving crafted XML payloads. This critical vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code, resulting in a 9.8 CVSS score.
There is no known public exploit, and the vulnerability is not in the CISA KEV catalog. It is remotely exploitable.
Update Fishbowl Inventory to version 2022.4.1 or later to patch the deserialization vulnerability.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2022-29805 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
From a weakness classification perspective (CWE-502): Insecure deserialization vulnerabilities allow attackers to inject malicious objects during deserialization, potentially enabling remote code execution.
