CVE-2022-27631
CWE-787Published: August 5, 2022· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
A memory corruption vulnerability exists in the httpd unescape functionality of DD-WRT Revision 32270 - Revision 48599. A specially-crafted HTTP request can lead to memory corruption. An attacker can send a network request to trigger this vulnerability.
Risk Analysis
DD-WRT firmware is vulnerable to memory corruption in its httpd unescape functionality. A remote attacker can send a crafted HTTP request to exploit this, potentially leading to code execution. The 9.8 CVSS score indicates a critical risk.
No public exploit is known, and it is not in the KEV catalog. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable with low complexity.
Upgrade to a newer revision of DD-WRT. Disable remote management features if they are not required.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2022-27631 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
From a weakness classification perspective (CWE-787): Out-of-bounds write vulnerabilities can lead to data corruption, crashes, or arbitrary code execution.
