Risk Analysis

Asuswrt and Asuswrt-Merlin firmware contain a memory corruption vulnerability in the httpd unescape function. Remote attackers can exploit this through crafted HTTP requests, posing a critical risk to the device. The 9.8 CVSS score reflects the high impact of this flaw.

No public exploit is known, and it is not in the KEV catalog. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable with low complexity.

Recommended Action

Update Asuswrt to version 3.0.0.4.386_48706 or later, or Asuswrt-Merlin to 386.7 or later. Disable remote access to the web interface.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2022-26376 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.

From a weakness classification perspective (CWE-787): Out-of-bounds write vulnerabilities can lead to data corruption, crashes, or arbitrary code execution.
