CWE-434Published: September 29, 2022· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
An arbitrary file upload vulnerability was found in Metersphere v1.15.4. Unauthenticated users can upload any file to arbitrary directory, where attackers can write a cron job to execute commands.
Risk Analysis
Metersphere is vulnerable to arbitrary file uploads, allowing unauthenticated attackers to upload malicious files. By uploading a cron job, an attacker can achieve remote code execution. This is a critical vulnerability that could lead to full server compromise.
No public exploit is known, and it is not in the CISA KEV. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable with low attack complexity.
Upgrade to a patched version of Metersphere and restrict file upload permissions.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2021-45790 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
