CISA KEV Advisory
Samsung Mobile Devices Memory Corruption Vulnerability
Samsung mobile devices using Mali GPU contain an incorrect implementation handling file descriptor in dpu driver. This incorrect implementation results in memory corruption, leading to kernel panic. This vulnerability was chained with CVE-2021-25337 and CVE-2021-25369.
Apply updates per vendor instructions.
Risk Analysis
This vulnerability in Samsung mobile devices' Mali GPU driver can lead to memory corruption and kernel panic due to improper handling of file descriptors. While the EPSS score is low at 0.00239, its inclusion in CISA's KEV catalog indicates confirmed exploitation, making it an urgent concern despite the low predicted exploitation likelihood.
This flaw has been actively exploited in the wild and was chained with other vulnerabilities, suggesting its use in more complex attack chains. The exploitation requires local access to the device.
Users of Samsung mobile devices should apply all available security updates to patch the dpu driver. Regular system hardening and keeping device software current are recommended to prevent exploitation.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2021-25370 requires local access, meaning attackers must already have a foothold on the target system.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
CISA has added CVE-2021-25370 to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, confirming active exploitation in the wild. U.S. federal agencies are required to patch this within the mandated timeframe, and all organizations should treat remediation as urgent.
