CWE-74Published: September 29, 2022· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
BigBlueButton before 2.2.7 does not have a protection mechanism for separator injection in meetingId, userId, and authToken.
Risk Analysis
BigBlueButton is vulnerable to separator injection due to a lack of input validation in meeting identifiers and authentication tokens. This flaw could allow attackers to manipulate system processes or gain unauthorized access. The critical severity score indicates a high risk of exploitation.
No public exploit is known, and it is not in the CISA KEV. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable with low attack complexity.
Upgrade to BigBlueButton version 2.2.7 or higher to ensure proper input sanitization.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2020-27602 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
The vulnerability requires no privileges and no user interaction, making it a prime target for automated exploitation campaigns and worm-like propagation.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 9.8.
