CVE-2019-3843

CWE-266Published: April 26, 2019· Updated: Jun 17, 2026

7.8
CVSS v3.1

Official Description

It was discovered that a systemd service that uses DynamicUser property can create a SUID/SGID binary that would be allowed to run as the transient service UID/GID even after the service is terminated. A local attacker may use this flaw to access resources that will be owned by a potentially different service in the future, when the UID/GID will be recycled.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2019-3843 requires local access, meaning attackers must already have a foothold on the target system.

Exploitation requires low privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.

A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 7.8.

A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2019-3843. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
