Official Description
The Norton Core router prior to v237 may be susceptible to a command injection exploit. This is a type of attack in which the goal is execution of arbitrary commands on the host system via vulnerable software.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2018-5234 requires adjacent network access, limiting remote exploitation but still posing risk in shared or local network environments.
Exploitation does not require any privileges, though user interaction (Required) is needed, which slightly reduces the risk of mass automated attacks.
A successful exploit results in complete confidentiality breach (data exposure), full integrity compromise (data manipulation), availability disruption (denial of service), with a CVSS base score of 8.0.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2018-5234. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
