Risk Analysis

A buffer overflow in Mozilla Firefox's deque handling can be triggered remotely, potentially leading to a denial of service or arbitrary code execution. The critical CVSS score reflects the high impact of this memory corruption flaw.

No public exploit is known for this issue, and it is not in the CISA KEV. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable with low complexity.

Recommended Action

Update Mozilla Firefox to version 43.0 or later to patch the underlying memory management defect.

Generated by the CTIWATCH analysis pipeline from this CVE's metadata (CVSS, EPSS, KEV status, exploit intelligence). Verify against vendor advisories before acting.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2015-7221 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.

Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.

From a weakness classification perspective (CWE-119): Buffer overflow vulnerabilities can lead to arbitrary code execution or denial of service by corrupting adjacent memory.
