CVE-2014-9662
CWE-119Published: February 8, 2015· Updated: Jun 17, 2026
Official Description
cff/cf2ft.c in FreeType before 2.5.4 does not validate the return values of point-allocation functions, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer overflow) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted OTF font.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2014-9662 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
From a weakness classification perspective (CWE-119): Buffer overflow vulnerabilities can lead to arbitrary code execution or denial of service by corrupting adjacent memory.
