Official Description
Buffer overflow in the RTSP Packet Handler in Hikvision DS-2CD7153-E IP camera with firmware 4.1.0 b130111 (Jan 2013), and possibly other devices, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (device crash and reboot) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a long string in the Range header field in an RTSP transaction.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2013-4977 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2013-4977. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
