Official Description
Salt (aka SaltStack) before 0.15.0 through 0.17.0 allows remote authenticated minions to impersonate arbitrary minions via a crafted minion with a valid key.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2013-4439 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
