Official Description
Unrestricted file upload vulnerability in html/Upload.php in the FCChat Widget plugin 2.2.13.1 and earlier for WordPress allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by uploading a file with a file with an executable extension followed by a safe extension, then accessing it via a direct request to the file in html/images.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2012-3578 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2012-3578. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
