CVE-2011-4834
CWE-264Published: December 15, 2011· Updated: Jun 16, 2026
4.6
CVSS v3.1
Official Description
The GetInstalledPackages function in the configuration tool in HP Application Lifestyle Management (ALM) 11 on AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris allows local users to gain privileges via (1) a Trojan horse /tmp/tmp.txt FIFO or (2) a symlink attack on /tmp/tmp.txt.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2011-4834 requires local access, meaning attackers must already have a foothold on the target system.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2011-4834. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
