CVE-2011-4613
CWE-264Published: February 5, 2014· Updated: Jun 16, 2026
4.6
CVSS v3.1
Official Description
The X.Org X wrapper (xserver-wrapper.c) in Debian GNU/Linux and Ubuntu Linux does not properly verify the TTY of a user who is starting X, which allows local users to bypass intended access restrictions by associating stdin with a file that is misinterpreted as the console TTY.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2011-4613 requires local access, meaning attackers must already have a foothold on the target system.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2011-4613. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
