Official Description
Heap-based buffer overflow in rvrender.dll in RealNetworks RealPlayer 11.0 through 11.1 and 14.0.0 through 14.0.2, and RealPlayer SP 1.0 through 1.1.5, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted frame in an Internet Video Recording (IVR) file.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2011-1525 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2011-1525. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
