CWE-20Published: May 24, 2011· Updated: Jun 16, 2026

The glob implementation in Pure-FTPd before 1.0.32, and in libc in NetBSD 5.1, does not properly expand expressions containing curly brackets, which allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via a crafted FTP STAT command.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2011-0418 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2011-0418. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
