Official Description
Oracle MySQL 5.1 before 5.1.49 and 5.5 before 5.5.5 allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (mysqld daemon crash) by using the HANDLER interface and performing "alternate reads from two indexes on a table," which triggers an assertion failure.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2010-3681 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2010-3681. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
