Official Description
Directory traversal vulnerability in the editnews module (inc/editnews.mdu) in index.php in CuteNews 1.4.1 allows remote attackers to read or modify files via the source parameter in the (1) editnews or (2) doeditnews action. NOTE: this can also produce resultant XSS when the target file does not exist.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2006-1925 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2006-1925. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
