Official Description
WorldClient webmail in Alt-N MDaemon 8.1.3 allows remote attackers to prevent arbitrary users from accessing their inboxes via script tags in the Subject header of an e-mail message, which prevents the user from being able to access the Inbox folder, possibly due to a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2005-4209 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2005-4209. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
