Official Description
Quake II server before R1Q2, as used in multiple products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (exhaustion of connection slots) via a large number of connections from the same IP address.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2004-2596 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
