Official Description
Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 installs with weak permissions for extended stored procedures that are associated with helper functions, which could allow unprivileged users, and possibly remote attackers, to run stored procedures with administrator privileges via (1) xp_execresultset, (2) xp_printstatements, or (3) xp_displayparamstmt.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2002-0721 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2002-0721. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
