NVD-CWE-OtherPublished: July 20, 2001· Updated: Jun 16, 2026
4.6
CVSS v3.1
Official Description
NetWin Authentication module (NWAuth) 2.0 and 3.0b, as implemented in SurgeFTP, DMail, and possibly other packages, uses weak password hashing, which could allow local users to decrypt passwords or use a different password that has the same hash value as the correct password.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2001-1354 requires local access, meaning attackers must already have a foothold on the target system.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-2001-1354. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
