Official Description
xpdf PDF viewer client earlier than 0.91 does not properly launch a web browser for embedded URL's, which allows an attacker to execute arbitrary commands via a URL that contains shell metacharacters.
Technical Analysis
CVE-2000-0727 can be exploited remotely over the network without requiring physical or adjacent access, significantly expanding the attack surface for threat actors.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
