Official Description
ping in Solaris 2.3 through 2.6 allows local users to cause a denial of service (crash) via a ping request to a multicast address through the loopback interface, e.g. via ping -i.
Technical Analysis
CVE-1999-1423 requires local access, meaning attackers must already have a foothold on the target system.
Exploitation requires some privileges, which limits the exposure to scenarios where an attacker has already gained initial access.
A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit exists for CVE-1999-1423. While not yet confirmed in active campaigns, the availability of PoC code increases exploitation risk substantially.
