MBS Radio was compromised in a ransomware attack attributed to metaencryptor in August 2024. The organization, operating in the Business Services sector in Canada, was added to the group's data leak site as part of an extortion campaign.

metaencryptor operates as a financially motivated ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) operation, exfiltrating sensitive data and threatening public disclosure to pressure victims into paying ransom demands.

MBS Radio is a locally owned and operated group of 24 radio stations across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
